Hotel California

______________________________________________
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
'this could be heaven or this could be hell'
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
'please bring me my wine'
He said, 'we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine'
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said 'we are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
'relax,' said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Adolescence
Adolescence is the most traumatic stage for all human beings. The biological process of growth could be traumatic and could be a reason for the youths to be aggressive. The hormones play an important role in this process because alteration in them causes reactions that make the metabolism to mix the voluntary movements with those that are involuntary. For example, reactions like aggressiveness, extreme cases of depression, and low self esteem, especially in girls.
During adolescence the identity is undefined and hence the teens could become target of peer pressure; the society may appear confused or no understandable to them. Especially parents because they tend to give orders and dictate. Teens do not want to follow orders or rules. The peer pressure becomes a stage of self concept in the teen’s world. For the acceptance from peers, teens would do anything without analyzing the situation or be at risk of adopting wrong habits. Clothing becomes an important tool for teens because they get use to wear strange and extravagant outfits, no matter the appearance or if their parents agree with such style, because teens want to be independent and unique in all terms. Culture is important also because the fact of having back ground from another country causes a struggle; unfortunately this country is composed by many cultures, the same that has been creating a new life style. The mixture between the two origins could be a problem and at the same time a differentiation among parents and teenagers because most of the caretakers do not want or cannot adapt to this environment, differing that most parents want to include their traditions to the new place of living. For example, food, celebrations, religion, traditions en general.
The most terrible weapons for teenagers definitely are drugs and sex, because Young people are using drugs in combination with sexual relations. Unfortunately, sex is being used to satisfy physiological necessities, pleasure and terrible actions caused by drugs effects. Lamentably, at this time numerous types of drugs have being appearing, inhibitors affecting brains, making adolescents to lose the integrity and control. It’s incredible in this millennium full of information, technological advances and more sexual education at schools, more teenagers are having unprotected sex, sharing needles producing the spread of contagious illness and more unwanted pregnancies, basically children giving birth to babies.
In terms of teen’s issues, we can create easily an imaginary chain of facts. But the most important is to identify the necessities as well as helping them to overcome the body and mind changes. The body is like a castle with many rooms and the teenagers mind is lost into this castle. We as adults should help them to overcome this unchangeable process.

Yess!! I will survive!!

At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights thinking, how you did me wrong
And I grew strong and I learned how to get along.

And so you're back, from outer space
I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed that stupid lock
I should have made you leave you key
If I'd known for just one second, you'd be back to bother me.

Go on now, go, walk out the door, just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore.
Weren't you the one, who tried to hurt me with goodbye?
Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh, no, not I, I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love,
I know I'll stay alive.
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give.
And I'll survive, I will survive, hey hey.

It took all the strength I had not to fall apart
Kept trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart.
And I spent, oh, so many nights just feeling sorry for myswelf I used to cry
but now I hold my head up high.

And you see me, somebody new,
I'm not that chained up little person still in love with you
And so you felt like dropping in and just expect me to be free
But now I'm saving all my loving for somenone who's loving me.

Go on now, go, walk out the door, just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore.
Weren't you the one, who tried to break me with goodbye?
Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh, no, not I, I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love,
I know I'll stay alive.
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give.
And I'll survive, I will survive, oh.

And I'll survive, I will survive, I will survive.

Monkey see monkey Do

According to how you were raised, is that the way you are going to educate your kids?
I think it’s the opposite because you don’t want to treat your child in the way you were treated by your parents, if you were mistreated. However, if you were spoiled, perhaps you are going to spoil your child because you don’t really know another way to raise your kids.
In terms of kids is difficult because they are like an sponge, outside influences can be noticeable at any moment could be from the day care, school or just the friend who comes home on the weekends. What ever you do, your child does, and this is amazing how we parents act as mirrors for our kids. In the other hand children can be rude because they are very honest, they don’t think if they are hurting others or not because they don’t know how to be hypocrites like most adults do. That is why some people say that children and drunk people say the truth.
However, Culture plays an important role in society, making attachment a dilemma in our families. Unfortunately, some cultures have very strong believes of male chauvinism, and women are in charge of the kids, putting the career goals in a second place. If the woman decides to do something in life, she must find the way to provide her family with the best environment providing food, taking care of the kids and the job. The male role in the family is to provide monetary solvency, but not more than that because the male chauvinism makes them to act like that. But, wait I cannot generalize because we have few men who enjoy helping his wife and making it a secret from his friends.
In the past, the simple fact of look at your parent eyes was disrespectful and sometimes punished paying the consequences of such act. When our moms talked, we had to stayed quiet, also if someone came home, we were not aloud to interfere in any conversation or just be there looking at them. Nowadays, life has been getting easy and unfortunately without manners. If you are having a conversation, kids agreed and gave opinions no matter what the conversation could be. In my case I don’t like to involve my kids into adult’s conversations because some times we discuss topics not audibly by kids. I use to say “Who asked for a public notary?” so, my kids know that they are not aloud into the conversation and when I roll my eyes, they identify that I don’t want them in the room. Also, when I count from one to five, they have to stop the noisy playing or what ever I told them to do must be completed when I reach the five! I love the kids who have manners; unfortunately this has been disappearing during these years. Not even the simple things such as good morning or thank you.
Violence is incrementing at schools because our kids are surrounded by violence in games, movies, television and the streets. This is the biggest problem and concern from the schools district. The metal detectors replaced the beautiful doors with colors we were used to see at the schools entrances, electronic games replaced the books and television replaced those nights having conversations together in family, having a dinner. The new millennium changed those beautiful things we were used to have. Perhaps, the religion is unifying families rescuing those values almost lost in our lives no matter what religion, language and or ethnicity. Human beings ought to believe in an extreme force to subsist in live, there is why religion is important for us.

Grafity becomes the art deco from most neighborhoods in New York City!

Just this morning I saw on the AM news paper, the anti-graffiti law is going to be reformed by the judge George Daniels, allowing 18 to 20 years old people to buy and carry spray paints and etching acids the same that are used to destroy our visual environment and the acid is the new innovation used to write on the trains windows and doors making the MTA to replace them in most part of the trains because of the acid damage. So, with the law under aged teenagers cannot have access to this kind of products, but the others absolutely yes...? I really think this reform is totally illogical because from the last two years more or less we have been fighting against the graffiti in our neighborhoods, especially in the Bronx. Our city looks dirty with graffiti everywhere.
I do not know what this judge has on his mind maybe where he lives is a nice place in the suburbs with nice walls and great view, he should come and visit us in our neighborhoods to enjoy our visual contamination.
Gratefully this law is not definitely up till now.

Around the world May first is the commemoration of the Labor Day, except in United States of America. Date in wish the immigrants without legal status to work in this country are protesting in order to achieve a permit to be legally into United States. This is according to a law named HR4437 in which the immigrants have been treated or labeled like criminals. For that reason in the actuality in USA lives millions of illegal immigrants from different countries around the world, not only Mexicans or Latin people how they want to make believe. Who are in the actuality working in different types of jobs, the same that the Native Americans refuse to do because most of the American people have enough education in order to have the fanciest jobs, the same they aren't going to leave to do housekeeping, construction or pick up vegetables in the farms. This protest is going to be held because immigrants want rights to work legally in this country in order to fulfill their simple necessities such as provide food to their families. May 1st is going to be remembered if the immigrants boycott succeeds. In some part I agree with the ideas from the activists because it is not fare that we are classified as dangerous creatures in this country. We cannot generalize! I absolutely consider that under the Gods land exist every kind of beings and not all immigrants are the same. In the other hand I totally disagree with the boycott because badness generates badness. We as immigrants must be intelligent and the best ways to protest is educating us, learning English, going to school and achieving a career; that is the way to kick butts. (Figuratively speaking) not doing absurd things that at the end are going to be against us like a boomerang.

Interesting Presentations!!!!!!!!

My classmates were courageous, they presented today and all were awesome. Speak in public is not the easiest thing to do.

Robert did a great job, he knew what he was talking about, when Robert is talking about HIV, I can imagined him swimming in a big pool without worries, he dominates his topic very well.

In terms of Diana’s presentation, I liked her freshness to speak; also she covered the topic nicely.

The Nutritional presentation from Alisa was interesting too and the most special from her presentation the serenity from her talking about nutrition. Those web links to be used by teachers are great idea.

Alice was the favorite for my son, despite he was doing a PowerPoint presentation while she was presenting, he was doing comments on the train about Alzheimer disease.

Congratulations for all of them!

The Holy Week

For Catholics this is the most important week from the year, especially Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
I was remembering when I was a child; the Holy Week was really strict; nobody listen music, not even the radio because it was a sin. Everything was quiet and some people wore black clothing. My grand ma Elvira said those who take a bath in the river during the Holy Week, become a mermaid. During those days we could not clean the house, not speak swear words or eat red meat. Instead we had to behave well. Everyone in my neighborhood and surroundings was sad, it was like the real death of Jesus happened those days; we went to the church more than ten times a week including the fake funeral to the statue of Jesus. I remember old ladies crying and kissing the feet from the sculpture of Jesus, making me feel frightened of those estrange things and believes. Also, the churches were open the twenty four hours a day and people stayed there taking care of the supposedly Jesus body, we use to bring flowers to the coffin in signal of sorrow and respect. Nowadays, the Holy Week means Vacations!! Nothing similar to the past, kids want to celebrate the Easter day because on that day they wear in new and fancy dresses, possibly they go to church. Unfortunately, in this country full of benefits the religious education isn’t trusted in the same way as we did in our countries. Actually, I miss all those traditions from the past because that is part of my childhood and I wish to have my grand ma with me during the Holy Week, but unfortunately she past away few years ago.
(I miss you abuelita!)
